We’ve had record breaking amounts of rain on Kauai! In 24 hours on April 14 we had over 2 feet of rain! All of this rain caused flash flooding and landslides. The north shore took the brunt of the storm. Hanalei is nearly underwater, cars were overturned, many homes were flooded and farther north Kuhio highway is completely blocked by earth when the hillside collapsed onto the road.
Aloha Friends, We’ve had record breaking amounts of rain on Kauai! The beaches are littered with fallen trees and debris. I took these photos the day after the storm. Above is Wailua bay looking north. The ponds at Lydgate are not looking too good, but clean up has already began. As evidenced by the large container near the shore. What is amazing is that during this crazy weather no one was killed or seriously injured. We have much to be thankful for.

Aloha All!
I'm happy to share with you all that Hurricane Julio will not be visiting the islands! I've been closely watching the National Weather Service, this is from their most recent update... "THERE ARE NO COASTAL WATCHES OR WARNINGS IN EFFECT." "Julio is moving toward the northwest near 16 mph, 26 km/h, and this motion is expected to for the next 48 hours with a slight decrease in forward speed. On this track, Julio will pass about 250 miles northeast of Maui on Sunday." Still expect some heavy rain and wind if you're on island....but, so stoked... no Hurricane! My good friend on the Hilo side of Big Island is still out of power. There are many downed trees in her neighborhood. Thankfully her home sustained minimal damage and her family is safe. They expect to be out of power for a few days. Please send positive thoughts and prayers to Big Island. Aloha friends. Aloha Friends,
Just a quick update...The National Weather Service reported that Iselle is just barely holding on to hurricane status. Be prepared for a tropical storm, HEAVY rain, wind and large surf. One of our friends on Big Island recently posted that they already have rain on the Kona side. Stay safe and strong friends! |
