Here's what I packed for my family on our recent flight to Kauai. Each lunch included pizza, a salad of lettuce, garbanzo beans, tomatoes, red onion and feta cheese with a mini Twix bar as a treat. All my kiddos happily finished their meals!
Since we were going to be gone for two weeks, I used this opportunity to clean out the veggie drawer in my fridge. In addition to our lunches, I packed a veggie tray... cut up carrots, celery, broccoli and cucumber.
When thinking about what to pack for your picnic, consider what you and your family really like to eat. What tastes good at room temperature? Remember that airplanes are often cool (COLD!). Your food is not likely to spoil, but you can always pack it in an insulated bag. Do not include any liquids or the TSA guy may swipe your ono-licious looking meal!
We often fly Hawaiian to Kauai, they still offer free meals in coach. When we last flew Hawaiian the meal was pretty good... even included a glass of wine! Check out my post in November 2012. Most domestic airlines do not offer this same service.
Something that surprised us all was how much better we felt on the flight and after landing. Eating fresh food along with plenty of liquids helped to make our flight a pleasant part of our journey!
Thanks for reading my diary! I hope that your next flight is tasty!
Aloha!
