Stop, Speedy Humper Ahead!

It's Aloha Friday Friends!

Stop working, slow down and enjoy your weekend!

Often on Kauai, you'll see a sign covered with stickers! This stop sign is located on Kauai's north shore near Hanalei.

Here is a few more fun signs on Kauai...
Picture
This is a good sign to follow..."local courtesy is 5-7 cars". There are several one lane bridges on Kauai. The sign is instructing you to let 5-7 cars pass over the bridge before you try to move forward to cross. Be patient. Very important is to wait until both bridges clear...as sometimes it's a double one lane bridge! You do not want to be stuck!

LOVE this sign! It's at the entry to one of our favorite beaches...Lydgate beach park on Kauai's east shore.

Speed hump LOL! We're silly, but these signs always make me laugh! It's even better if the sign has been altered to read "Speedy Humper"!

When we visit Kauai I like to take photos of the road signs. Many are unfamiliar or funny! I have lots more to show you! Another day...another post :)

Thanks for reading my diary! I wish you all a fabulous weekend! Stop and spend some time with those you love!

Aloha!

We LOVE Kapa'a!

We love Kapa'a and apparently Forbes magazine does too! Here's what they had to say about our favorite town...
Unspoiled prime Hawaiian real estate was central to the plot of the award-winning 2011 George Clooney film, 'The Descendants,' but where the much sought-after – and fought-over – land of the movie is meant to remain out of reach, the small-town Hawaii of Kapa’a is entirely within reach. Unlike the high-rise strewn beaches that line so many of Hawaii’s stretches of coast, Kapa’a has a small-town Polynesian paradise quality that feels much more connected to the island’s past. “It’s a very Hawaiian town with traditional ukulele makers and fish taco trucks parked under the palm trees,” says Evans. “It’s a small town with a lot of Hawaiian life, minus the tourist fray.” Shop in the morning, then kayak offshore in the afternoon and don’t worry about fighting for blanket space in the sand – there’s enough for everybody.
There's plenty of golden sand beaches in Kapaa!

Watch beautiful sunrises in Kapaa! This photo was taken just outside the condo when we went for an early morning walk.

Kapaa is full of life but, not overly touristy. It has wonderful locally owned restaurants and shops. Huge groves of coconut palms, and pretty beaches. There's a lot to love about Kapaa!

Aloha and have a great week!

Hawaii at Home - part 1

I've been wanting to write a post about bringing Hawaii home. Today is the perfect day because...my plumeria bloomed! And it's hard to think about Hawaii without thinking of beautiful plumeria flowers!

My plumeria blooming was extra exciting because just this spring, I thought the plant was dying. I've had the plumeria 5 years and it developed a "mushy" spot on the trunk. I kept pruning off the soft spot and it would reappear. Finally, I decided I should prune it far lower. My poor plant was just a third of it's previous self! Then, a few weeks later it surprised me with rapid growth from one side! And now flowers! My plumeria has taught me a lesson...never give up!

My husband and I try to bring a little aloha spirit into our gardening. There are so many beautiful plants and flowers on Kauai. We try to include some that will grow here on the Mainland.

This week our red hibiscus bloomed! This flower definitely reminds me of Hawaii. Isn't it bright and happy? Hibiscus are pretty easy to grow. They'll take some cold (even frost) and still be OK.

Recall the post a couple weeks back where we bought too many souvenirs? Here's one of those souvenirs.  Do you have too many tiki too (say that fast 5 times LOL)? Try putting some out among your flowers.

Plumeria, palms and some weird prehistoric plant :)

These colorful boulgainvillea peak over the fence from my neighbor's yard.

And what Kauai inspired yard would be complete without...

a CHICKEN!

Here's our hen Cinnamon. She thinks that she's a dog and is a lot of fun!

Well, I hope that I've given you some ideas about how to bring Hawaii home, at least your backyard anyway!

Oh, I almost forgot...a few tiki torches are nice too!

Aloha!
