Aloha from Kauai Friends! It's so nice to be back on the Island! We're enjoying our little holiday, taking it easy. Here's a few photos from our first day... Stoked to be off the airplane! After the long flight we headed over to the Beachboy poolside bar for a drink. Mike made us a refreshing drink with Kauai made Koloa rum, ginger ale and lemonade. Then a walk on the beach to get our toes back in the sand...

Aloha Friends! As Valentine's day approaches, love is in the air...and plants! On our last visit to Kauai I took a few photos of hearts I saw growing near the condo... Thanks for reading my diary!
Aloha Friends! 2 blissful weeks on Kauai... We felt so blessed to be there and made great memories of fun times with family and friends, relaxing sunsets on the beach, delicious island food, adventures and the incredible beauty that is Kauai. I have so much to tell. I'll enjoy sharing our experience with you over the next few diary entries. Here's a few photos... Our family walked often along the ocean-front path behind the condo in the evenings. On this occasion the girls discovered a hammock. The perfect sunset hang out! :) This is one of our favorite beaches on Kauai. Just a mile from the condo Lydgate beach boasts clear sheltered water-- perfect for swimming! The experience is like walking into an aquarium...there are so many fish and sea creatures to see! Puffer fish, striped Convict Tang, bright Wrases, BIG blue fish that swim in schools...too many fish to try to name!
Please keep the people of the Puna district on Big Island in your thoughts. Lava is flowing dangerously close to the town of Pahoa, and the highway, possibly cutting off thousands of residents from their homes. Hugs and positive thoughts to our friends on Big Island! Aloha! Hi friends, It's so nice to be back on the island! We have lots of work planned for the condo but, first we had to play a bit. We got over to one of our favorite beaches today...Waikokos! If you want a beach all to yourself...this is the place. No one here. Or here...but us! Shallow, crystal clear water, tons of friendly fish and an awesome surf break just a few yards away.
It was a beautiful day on Kauai's north shore! Aloha from Kauai! And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play in your hair -Kahil Gibran Kauai's calling me...time for a vacation!
We're excited for this next trip over to Kauai, it's been almost two years! It'll be a bit of a working vacation as we have a few ideas to spruce up the condo...all the better for our future guest to enjoy! I'll post a note soon about some of the upgrades... We're fortunate that the condo has been booked steady with visitors. It makes me feel good that others have got a chance to enjoy Kauai and trusted us to provide them with a great place to stay! And, it's an awesome value...can't beat $95 a night for a one bedroom condo with a peek a boo ocean view! Thanks for reading my diary! Aloha! Aloha All, May 1st is May Day on the Mainland but, in Hawaii it's Lei Day! Lei Day became an official holiday in Hawaii back in 1929. It was a day to honor the art of lei making and the custom of wearing lei. The holiday is still celebrated today with lei making contests, music, food booths and hula performances. If you are on Kauai, a great place to pick up a lei inexpensively is Walmart in Lihue. Such a nice gift for your sweetheart or any loved one!
Happy Lei Day! Aloha Readers! Jurassic Park is back! You knew it would be... you can never get enough Kauai! I remember the first time I saw Jurassic Park...the beautiful scenery was unreal! The lush, green velvet mountains held so much mystery. That was before I'd ever seen Kauai. It really is that spectacular! The above photo is of the huge Jurassic Park gates at the base of Mount Wai'ale'ale, perfect for dinosaurs (one of the wettest spots on Earth). Recently, there was an open casting call, more than 1,500 hopefuls auditioned for the 50 extras needed. The production company was looking for paddlers comfortable with the open ocean, locals and military. What will the next film's story tell? Here's the Jurassic Falls also known as Manawaiopuna.
Filming begins soon on Kauai. Casting hasn't been announced. We'll keep you posted. The movie comes out on June 12, 2015! If you're not quite ready to let go of summer, fall is a great time to visit Kauai! With average temperatures in October of 83F and November 81F...it indeed feels like an endless summer! We often plan our trips to Kauai in the fall months. In fact our first trip to Kauai was in the middle of September. We loved it! There's a few reasons why I like to recommend this time of year:
If you seek an endless summer and would like to get away this fall, we do have a few weeks available at the condo. Folks who like to book last minute can stay next week...October 13 through 22! For a shorter stay we have November 7 through 11 open. November 19 all the way through December 2 is available. And finally, December 10 through 16. Minimum stay is just 4 nights. Have you seen The Endless Summer? It is one of my favorite surf movies! It's a documentary filmed in 1966 that follows the fun, often comical adventures of two young surfers who travel around the world in search of waves. The two make it to Hawaii and surf the waves of Waikiki. Such a fun flick to watch on cooler fall days! Happy Fall and thanks for reading Coconut Diaries! Aloha! It's Aloha Friday Friends! Stop working, slow down and enjoy your weekend! Often on Kauai, you'll see a sign covered with stickers! This stop sign is located on Kauai's north shore near Hanalei. Here is a few more fun signs on Kauai... This is a good sign to follow..."local courtesy is 5-7 cars". There are several one lane bridges on Kauai. The sign is instructing you to let 5-7 cars pass over the bridge before you try to move forward to cross. Be patient. Very important is to wait until both bridges clear...as sometimes it's a double one lane bridge! You do not want to be stuck! LOVE this sign! It's at the entry to one of our favorite beaches...Lydgate beach park on Kauai's east shore. Speed hump LOL! We're silly, but these signs always make me laugh! It's even better if the sign has been altered to read "Speedy Humper"! When we visit Kauai I like to take photos of the road signs. Many are unfamiliar or funny! I have lots more to show you! Another day...another post :)
Thanks for reading my diary! I wish you all a fabulous weekend! Stop and spend some time with those you love! Aloha! Isn't this cool? I love it! Kauai, at times, especially after a storm has a lot of driftwood on it's beaches. Speaking of storms, we had a good one this week. Hurricane Flossie, I'm so glad you just caused heavy rain! So, during heavy rain, water rushes down the Wailua River and pushes fallen trees down to the beach. All that driftwood is your opportunity to get crafty! Build beach front property... My sweet Mom and sweet Mother-In-Law in their custom made beach shack! Here's another... There's always sunshine after the storm!
Have fun and stay creative! Aloha! |
